Thomas R. Trost, (75), of Capitan, New Mexico, went to be with our Lord on November 3rd, 2023.
Thomas, fondly known as Tom, was born to Robert and Thelma Trost, on April 29th, 1948 in Freeport, Illinois. He attended Warren High School, where he threw the shot put 52 feet, and played basketball there as well as in junior college. He served his country in Vietnam. After receiving his degree from New Mexico State University he worked for the state of New Mexico as a Social Worker. Upon retirement, he found joy in a second career as a wildland firefighter.
Tom purchased land off of Indian Divide in 1980 and built his own house in which he would raise his family. He also served on the Capitan school board and would play Santa Claus at local events. He was a friend to all and a stranger to none.
Tom, was a kidder who is survived by his big door prize of 52 and a half years wife Ruby, daughter Sunshyne (Patrick) and his youngest son, Javier. 5 grandchildren Alexis, Gavin (Emily) with a daughter on the way, Amyra Mae, Derian, Trinity, and Rubi. 2 great-grandchildren Marlie and Ziggie.; as well as his favorite Aunt Leona and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews around the United States.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents as well as his oldest son, Stormy.
Tom marched to the beat of his own drum, sitting down with neighbors and friends to watch a Chicago Bears football game, introducing younger generations to The Three Stooges, or hunting for arrowheads – Tom knew the meaning of paying it forward!
To celebrate Tom consider making a donation in his honor to the Stormy Brooks Trost Memorial Scholarship.
The Trost family has entrusted their loved one to the care of New Dawn Cremations.
