James Brophy Obituary

James  Robert Brophy, 69, passed away on April 2, 2024 in Ruidoso, New Mexico. He was born on June 16, 1954 in Chicago, Illinois to Robert and Patricia (Kennedy) Brophy.

Jim was an entrepreneur, who over his life span had several business endeavors. When Jim first moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, he started his very first business. This would not only be a catalyst for his career but also his love of travel. The company was for stainless steel fabrication that serviced cruise ship's galleys and bars which enabled him to travel the world. Jim eventually was able to phase himself out of life in the fast lane, allowing him to pursue another one of his dreams, traveling with his family in an RV. During the years of traveling approximately 34 states were visited with countless stays in national parks and monuments.

While traveling on the road with his family a new home was found here in Ruidoso, NM. Jim eventually found a new passion and started yet another business of building old-growth log homes. He was an avid outdoorsman, he loved hiking, camping, team roping, and many other activities. Even in retirement, Jim purchased a smaller RV so that he and his wife Carol could again play in nature. They spent a summer together being camp hosts at Great Basin NP.

Jim was a devoted husband to his wife, Carol, a loving father to his children, and the best grandfather to his grandchildren. His lust for life and adventure were always an inspiration. There was never a dull moment with Jim around, his playful demeanor and humor would fill any room he was in. Jim had a way of charming anyone that crossed his path.

Survivors include his wife, Carol Brophy; daughter, Jessica (Steve) Foureman;  sons, Everett (Kaitlin) Brophy, Keenan Brophy, and JJ Rue; and his 7 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Thomas Brophy; and mother, Patricia Brophy.

The immediate family will celebrate life and spread his ashes this summer.

The Brophy family has entrusted their loved one to the care of New Dawn Cremations.  Cremation will take place at PCS.
