Jon Wingo

Born to James Beauford Wingo and Blanche Beulah Burch Wingo on January 15, 1940, in Ardmore, Oklahoma. Jon passed away January 29, 2024 at his home in Alto, NM.  Jon was extremely proud of his family and loved nothing more than spending time with them. 

Incredibly intelligent, Jon held a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, flew multiple aircraft in the USAF, enjoyed reading multiple genres, was especially fond of all classical music, especially Beethoven, and loved tinkering with all things mechanical and challenging. Jon was a Master Woodworker; he built his and Carol's dream home by hand in the mountains near Ruidoso, NM. He also built the majority of the furniture in the house, and all of the shelves and cabinets. 

Jon retired from the US Air Force in 1985 as Lt. Colonel after a 21 year highly decorated career. Jon was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross with 2 Oak Clusters, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal with 7 Oak Leaf Clusters, AF Commendation Medal, AF Expeditionary Medal, AF Longevity Service Award Ribbon with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with: 3 Bronze Service Stars, The AF Presidential Unit Citation, AF Outstanding Unit Award, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, AF Overseas Service Long Tour Ribbon. In addition, Jon earned the AF Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon. 

Jon is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Carol Anne Morgan Wingo; his children: Donna Milenovich and her husband Bob, Gary Wingo and his wife Katya, and Susan Hatfield and her husband Michael; his Grandchildren: Tanner, Zachary, and Maxon Milenovich; Hailey, Hannah, and Holden Hatfield; Bobby, Emily and Christian Wingo; His siblings: Sister Joy Bass and brother Dorcey Wingo and many nieces and nephews. He was also loved by a host of neighbors and friends. 

The Wingo family has entrusted their loved one to the care of New Dawn Cremations for direct cremation.
