Lela Baca Obituary

Lela May Baca, age 69, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 25,2022, at her home in Ruidoso Downs, New Mexico.

Lela was born on September 13, 1953 in Ruidoso, New Mexico to Silvano Sanchez and Pilar Sanchez. She attended Ruidoso High School. She married Gregorio "Greg" Baca, in Ruidoso and had a loving son and daughter, 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. She worked as a Lead Janitor for the Ruidoso Municipal Schools, where she retired on July 1, 2011 and preceded to Janitorial Services that included the Lincoln County Medical Center. Thereafter, she lovingly became a welcomer to all her friends and family at her home in Ruidoso Downs, New Mexico.

Lela was known to be a very humble lady who stood proud for what she believed in and taught her children and grandchildren how to stand proud for what they believed in and comforted them as a loving mother/grandmother would.  Many would call her the guardian of her sheep. Lela truly lived a fulfilling life where you would find her at home having a conversation with much laughter that included things of the past which would often leave you warm hearted. She had a love for her rose garden, a heart of gold and piercing green eyes when she was serious but a softness that would show comfort to so many whom she loved and came in contact with. She always had an open-door policy and would welcome anyone in her home for coffee and good conversation. She was truly "Gods Angel" .

She is survived by: her sisters, Eloisa Perez (and husband, Rudy), Antonia "Toni" Chavez, Amadita "Amie" Baca (and husband, Pete), Vitalia "Tia" Gallegos (and husband, Euloquio) and Emma Sanchez;  her daughter, Delilah Hurst (and husband, Christian); her son, Jimmy Baca (and partner, Kawauney Beck); her grandchildren, David Ordorica (and wife, Savannah), Naomi Chavez (and partner, Gabriel), Ashley Chavez, Lucas Baca, Sierra Baca, Tristan Hurst, Layla Hurst and Lainey Hurst; her great grandchildren, Zachariah Ordorica, Patrick Ordorica, Emberlie Ordorica, David Jr. Ordorica, Rainie Keaton and Brantley Gonzales.

She is preceded in death by her brothers, Reynaldo "Ray" Sanchez (and wife, Carmen), Juan Sanchez (and wife, Carolina "Carol"), Chris Sanchez, and Ramon "Raymond" Sanchez; her sister, Mary Parrish (and husband, Cliff); brother-in-law, Avie Chavez; and granddaughter, Mariah Ordorica.

Services will be Saturday, October 8, 2022 at 10:30 am at the San Ysidro Church and Cemetery on US Highway 70 between Ruisoso Downs and Glenco.
